Bubble Merge 2048 App Review – Scam Or Legit?

Bubble Merge 2048 app iconWelcome to my Bubble Merge 2048 app review.

There was a point in time where merge puzzle games were one of the most popular casual games out there. The simplicity of the gameplay and the graphics were enough to hook people into playing them. It was a game you could come back to every once in a while. Merge puzzle games are still popular. If you search for it on any of the app stores, you’re likely to find one. A lot of merge puzzle games nowadays feature storylines or more elaborate graphics. It’s the type of game that can have as many flourishes but still be familiar to play with.

That’s where Bubble Merge 2048 comes to play. With the amount of merge puzzles games available on the app stores, this game blends in with the rest very easily. If you have searched for this game recently, you probably have seen related search results come up. “bubble merge 2048 gcash” and “bubble merge 2048 earn money” were usually the ones that would show up.

A lot of games have been created in the past few years promising players of big payouts for anybody who uses the game. If you have read my reviews for Candy Crack, Coin Pusher+ or 1010! Block Fun, you’re probably aware of how high the amounts can go. But is the Bubble Merge 2048 app actually legit or is it just another scam?

Bubble Merge 2048 App Review

Here are some quick details about the app:

What Is Bubble Merge 2048?

Bubble Merge 2048 is a merge puzzle game where you combine similar numbered bubbles in order to reach 2048. Most 2048-style games usually have you swiping tiles in order to combine them. This game, however, lets you drop the numbered bubbles anywhere you like.

You gain virtual currency every time you merge two similar bubbles. The higher the numbers that merge, the more virtual currency you earn. You can redeem the currency you earn via PayPal or, if you’re from the Philippines, via GCash.

How Bubble Merge 2048 Works

The Bubble Merge 2048 app is currently available for Early Access on the Google Play Store for Android users.

The gameplay mechanics is mainly straightforward. You drop a numbered bubble onto the grid, usually starting at 2. You have to combine matching bubbles continuously in order to reach 2048. The order goes like this: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048.

Every time you merge two bubbles, you earn virtual currency. It usually starts at $0.01 when you merge two bubbles with the number 2, $0.02 when you merge two bubbles with the number 4, and so on.  You can also earn virtual currency when you unlock the higher numbered bubbles. Those currency add up to your balance and you redeem them via PayPal or GCash.

Now I know you’re wondering. What is GCash? It is basically a popular digital wallet app in the Philippines. The popularity of this app makes it an easy bait to hook people from the Philippines into playing Bubble Merge 2048. If you look at the screenshot below, you can see how the game advertises itself. It uses common denominations of Philippine peso instead of the usual 2048 numbers. If you saw that you can earn Php1500 instantly from playing this game, you would probably download this game to test it out.

One particular thing I noticed while researching for this game is that the content rating for it is rated Mature and somehow contains “nudity and horror themes.” That threw me for a loop. Why would a puzzle game have a mature content rating? Is there a secret level where the game scares you? It immediately strikes me that this game isn’t being serious.

Is Bubble Merge 2048 Legit? Does It Pay?

The main way to supposedly earn money from the Bubble Merge 2048 app is by playing the game. Although the virtual currency that you earn by merging bubbles is very minimal at the start, it starts to add up as you keep merging bubbles. There are also pop ups that will reward you with around $1 if you watch an ad. You can redeem what you earned via PayPal if you reach the $100 minimum threshold or Php5000 via GCash if you’re from the Philippines.

Even if you do reach the minimum threshold, the game will not instantly transfer your earnings to your preferred digital wallet. Instead it will give you a 15-day period before the transaction goes through. This is similar to what happens when you redeem your earnings in Word Bakery 2021 Pro. You can also view 150 ads if you don’t want to wait that long. Yes, you read that right. A hundred and fifty ads. If you have to wait that long, you’re probably not going to get that amount of money.

Pros and Cons

  • Simple gameplay
  • Decent graphics

  • No actual way to cash out
  • Arbitrary scoring system

It is getting frustrating the more I write about these kinds of apps. I’ve been a victim of one of these games before so I know first-hand how stuff like this works. But there are still a lot of people who fall prey into these kinds of things. I mean, who wouldn’t? If there was some way to earn money from playing a game, somebody would jump at that chance. You don’t really have much to lose by trying. You’re only tapping on your screen and watching ads, right?

But there is the concern of data privacy in all of this. By connecting your digital wallet accounts to games like these, you can’t really be sure that the sensitive data from those accounts are safe. And that’s gonna be a problem in the long run. What if somebody uses that data to impersonate you? I may sound paranoid but it is a genuine thing you have to worry about.

And the developers are getting smarter at who they target in their ads. If a place like the Philippines can get targeted, they probably are aware that people from that country are susceptible to these kinds of ads. It’s hard to earn money nowadays. I understand why people would take a chance on something like this. But please be mindful of the things you put out there.
